Education

Located next to the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, the Kumukoa House is a community of young people living consciously in community, harmoniously in the dawn of the 21st century. Scott has managed the permaculture landscape at the Kumukoa House since the inception of the community in 2011.

He has created and implemented a place- based, community- minded permaculture curriculum for all residents of the Kumukoa House. He also leads work days at the house twice a month and has taught and influenced dozens of residents and community members through the years of working with and co- creating the community. He has transformed the yard into a thriving edible landscape that produces food year round and planned and executed numerous workshops. Want to learn more about the Kumukoa House? Manager at Kalani Honua Retreat Center

Kalani Honua Retreat Center is located in Puna on Hawai'i Island. Scott has worked as both the Permaculture Manager and Landcare Renewal Specialist. He has played the role of educator in leading the permaculture crew and landcare crews, giving permaculture tours to the community, hosting school groups, and other educational outreach for the retreat center.
